Services
The Laboratory Animal Research Center is staffed by trained personnel. When an investigator has a particular request for utilizing the Center and its equipment, he/she should first contact the Supervisor, located in LARC 242 (Ext. 7-1886). The investigator may be assured that every effort will be made to meet his/her requests. However, the Supervisor requires a reasonable period of time and adequate information in order to coordinate the Center and its equipment.
The following services are provided by the Center:
- Procurement of laboratory animals.
- Procurement of feed, bedding, cages, animal care, equipment, and supplies.
- Care and husbandry of animals housed within the Center.
- Cleaning, washing, and sanitation of cages and equipment.
- Instruction in proper methods of animal handling, restraint, and experimental manipulation.
- Laboratory animal caretaker training.
- Euthanasia of animals.
- Carcass disposal (non radioactive only) provided through the Veterinary
Diagnostic Laboratory. - Laboratory animal health and disease diagnosis in cooperation with the
diagnostic and clinical services of the Veterinary Science Department. - Animal records and information.
- Consolation.
The LARC is open to investigators daily, Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Special arrangements may be made for access to the building during evening, week-ends, or holidays.
