Services

The Laboratory Animal Research Center is staffed by trained personnel. When an investigator has a particular request for utilizing the Center and its equipment, he/she should first contact the Supervisor, located in LARC 242 (Ext. 7-1886). The investigator may be assured that every effort will be made to meet his/her requests. However, the Supervisor requires a reasonable period of time and adequate information in order to coordinate the Center and its equipment.

The following services are provided by the Center:

  • Procurement of laboratory animals.
  • Procurement of feed, bedding, cages, animal care, equipment, and supplies.
  • Care and husbandry of animals housed within the Center.
  • Cleaning, washing, and sanitation of cages and equipment.
  • Instruction in proper methods of animal handling, restraint, and experimental manipulation.
  • Laboratory animal caretaker training.
  • Euthanasia of animals.
  • Carcass disposal (non radioactive only) provided through the Veterinary
    Diagnostic Laboratory.
  • Laboratory animal health and disease diagnosis in cooperation with the
diagnostic and clinical services of the Veterinary Science Department.
  • Animal records and information.
  • Consolation.

The LARC is open to investigators daily, Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Special arrangements may be made for access to the building during evening, week-ends, or holidays.
